March Randomness #4
I have been craving a really good maple bar lately. Anyone know where I can get one?

Window shopping can be fun. I am one of those rare weird people who can go into a store and wander for hours and hours without ever buying anything. There are other people who can't stand to do anything but go into a store, get what they need, and then leave ASAP.
Where do you fall on the scale and why do you think you are that way?

Reality TV - no such thing exists anymore.
If you disagree with me.....
..... who do you know that has ever been stranded on an isalnd with 15 other castaways and a full fledged camera crew for 39 days?
..... who do you know that lives about a television studio turned into a giant restaurant with red and blud colored kitchens?
..... who do you know that goes and sings a different themed song each week waiting for a percentage of the American population to determine if they can sing again?
..... who do you know that just says to themselves "let's race around the world, doing hilarious and funny challenges, deal with airports that delay us and race to jump on a mat every so often"?
Don't get me wrong - these are somewhat entertaining shows and all, but far far far from reality these days.

Why don't people, especially those who need it, ask for help? I work with some great people, but they are in need of help and just never ask for it. I work (volunteer) youth who sometimes need help, but they don't. I understand that there are times when there are sensitive situations in which people don't want to ask for help. But I am not talking about those. I am talking about your run of the mill every day occurences. I am sorry if I rub some of you the wrong way this - but I am not so selfish or self-centered that I am unwilling to give help when and where possible.
Okay - off the soap box now!

January Randomness #3
Extreme Makeover Home Edition came to town and they moved the bus today.
Why must people wait for something like this to be involved in the community around them? Don't get me wrong, I think it is great that they were forced to turn away volunteers - means there is a great volunteer spirit in town. However, this town (and any other for that matter) need volunteers for things more than just building houses in seven days. On average I volunteer twenty - thirty hours a week in volunteer work because I feel it so important to give back (also helps that about fifteen of those hours are in teaching that are helping to prepare me for bigger and better things). Could you imagine if the 4,000 people who signed up wanting to be volunteers for building a house each gave the four hours they were willing to commit to the house and did something else in the community. That would be 16,000 hours or the equivalent of paying 2,000 peopple to work a normal eight hour day. The end result could be unbelievable.
But alas, I doubt we will see much difference since people just want to go be on a television show and meet celebrities versus make a real difference in the community around them. I hope that I am proven wrong on this one. Only time will tell

Relatability. Before, you start thinking I am talking about dating - be advised - I am not. I am happily married.
Instead, what I am talking about is the ability of some people to relate to others. Last night, I listened (couldn't watch since I was signing and needed to use my eyes) to my most beautiful and wondeful wife interact with other adults and teenage girls. She can relate to all groups and is able to talk to them.
I go to work and other places on a regular basis and find that some people in management in various departments (vague enough?) lack this ability in the worst way. They are so afraid of saying the wrong thing or trying to compensate for lack of general education and people skills that they end up sounding incompetent, unprofessional, and in general stupid.
Don't even get me started on verbal fillers!
Why can't people simply be who they are and acknowledge to themselves and others their inabilities and weaknesses so that they can be made stronger : )
In the meantime, if you ever see me cringing it is because somebody probably said something so out of place that all I can do is cringe, pretend it didn't happen and think of a happy place
